Two posts in one day! Ahhh..choices...

...speaking of which, here are a couple of pics of carpet swatches from which I'm choosing. Unfortunately, my camera does a poor job of actually catching the actual tone of the colors. They're more vibrant then they appear in these pictures. I'm leaning towards "Butterscotch" which is the sort of "bronze" colored carpet swatch shown second from the left in the top row of the top picture. We'll have to wait and see what I end up choosing.

Inside out or...

...outside in. Once the door is on, it's supposed to be put in tomorrow, the outside will be completely sealed. They have the T1-11 there and will also be putting that on the exterior. They're also supposed to build the stairs tomorrow.

However, the old wall that the addition is connected to needs to be rebuilt due to rotten wood and the fact that it's a load bearing wall and the studs are currently 24" on center. So there is an added charge for that and also an added charge to move the old basement door. This is due to the stairs and the way the main floor had to be supported interfering with the old doorway.

This is my first post in a few days because there wasn't much apparent progress and my camera's batteries died the other day when I went to take more pics.

The felt is on...

...the roof. They'll put the shingles up next. Then they still have to cut out some window openings, most of them are already framed internally, so they can put the windows in and get it sealed up and start heating it and working on the interior.

In the photos, you'll notice the three south facing window openings on the main level are in. The entry door to the outside will be between those windows and the patio door in the existing house. They expect the addition to be sealed up by the end of Tuesday.

One day I'll figure out how to get my glove out of the view.

Roof Work

They were building the main roof of the addition and the roof that integrates the new addition with the existing roof today. I could only get the pictures you see below since their trucks had the alley blocked. When I take pictures tomorrow, I'm sure the roof will be completed, in terms of the framing construction.

Second Floor

Most of the second story exterior/framing construction was completed today. Below are some pictures of the second story work in progress at lunch time today. I've also included a picture of the winter wonderland outside the back door at work.

First Floor Sheathing

As you can see, the first floor is sheathed. They were laying down the second floor sheathing when I took these pictures. The south side of the addition is completely covered in sheathing. This is just temporary until they build the knee wall to support the windows and the jambs to separate them.

There's also a picture looking in through what will be the front door. You can see the openings directly ahead where the stairs will be and the smaller awning type window openings on the north wall.

Now that the weather is warm enough to work again, they plan to have the exterior completely framed and sheathed and the roof on by the end of the week.

Monday's completed work

The picture below shows the work that was completed on Monday. There is an error in the north wall (the wall on the right side near the alley) as the windows there are supposed to be smaller awning type windows. The contractor is going to fix this. You can see how it is supposed to look in the plans shown below.

You can also see the floor joists for the second floor at the top of the structure they've completed so far. They won't be working on it again until next Monday due to the severe cold spell we're under right now. So, until then, stay warm.

First Floor

They have the joists in for the first floor. These were taken at lunch today. Their goal was to get the first floor, the walls of the first floor and the second floor structure up today. With the frigid temperatures coming in over night, they probably won't work at the site tomorrow.

I also picked up the bathroom sink, sink faucet, bathtub/shower faucets tonight. I'll buy the vanity, mirror, toilet, and lights later this week.

Finished Foundation...

The finished foundation is shown in the following pics. You can see the final top course of block was added where the back porch was located. Framing is scheduled to begin tomorrow. A final picture showing the frozen lake and ice locked island was added just because.

Buh Bye Back Porch!

It's gone! Well, it's gone now. The picture was taken at lunch time when they were almost through demolishing the back porch. The brick layers should be out tomorrow or Friday to finish the foundation, the top coarse that goes where the porch was on the existing foundation. Then framing begins Monday.
